Lifting an OASIS self-exclusion: process, timelines, alternatives (2026)

OASIS (self-exclusion system under § 8 GlüStV) is Germany's central nationwide gambling self-exclusion database, run by Regierungspräsidium Darmstadt. Anyone listed in OASIS cannot play with any GGL-licensed operator — online, in arcades, or in land-based casinos. Lifting such an exclusion follows strict rules.

**Keep the exclusion after applying?** Yes. Many people deliberately keep the exclusion in place after the waiting period — as permanent protection. It costs nothing, restricts nothing outside GGL gambling, doesn't appear in Schufa, doesn't surface in job applications, and isn't shared with third parties.

**What OASIS does NOT block.** Illegal operators without a GGL licence (Curaçao, Anjouan, MGA) — banned in Germany but not technically blocked everywhere. Playing at illegal operators after an OASIS exclusion means losing all consumer protection in disputes. Also outside scope: fantasy sports leagues, stock trading, crypto casinos without a licence.

**For relatives.** If you suspect a family member is developing a gambling problem, you can request a third-party exclusion with Regierungspräsidium Darmstadt. An informal letter with a reasoned suspicion is enough (financial red flags, debt, repeated cancellations of social events). The affected person isn't informed beforehand. After registration they receive an official notice with right to object.
